YouTube is rolling out a channel-specific version of its short video format Shorts, aiming to capitalize on the growing interest in this segment. Content creators will be able to share exclusive Shorts content with their paying subscribers through this channel.
According to YouTube's announcement, content creators will be able to leverage this new feature to share exclusive announcements, product discounts, limited-time opportunities, Q&A sessions, behind-the-scenes footage, or previews of future content with their subscribers. To activate this feature, a content creator who wishes to share Members Only Shorts content will need to select the "members only" option from the visibility options after uploading. Members Only Shorts content will appear in the Shorts tab, Subscribers feed, and on channels, with a star icon indicating that the content is exclusive to subscribers.
This move by YouTube reflects its acknowledgment of the popularity of short-form video content, particularly within the YouTube Shorts segment, and its efforts to provide additional monetization opportunities and incentives for content creators to engage with their subscribers.
